CHICKENSThe flocks of free-range chickens are a traditional breed, based on the Light Sussex, and are kept in groups of about 100.They arrive as day old chicks and, after a cuddle from our 3-year old son Penry, are brooded under electric heaters for the first 3-4 weeks. Once they are fully feathered, the chicks are given access to pasture.Their diet is an organic cereal based pellet which is fed outside ad-lib. The hen houses are mobile, so they can be moved to fresh ground regularly. The chickens free-range over the farm and mature slowly at their natural pace, depending on how much they have supplemented their food with foraging. We think that our chickens are happy birds and that contentment translates into an unrivalled taste on the dinner table. The birds are all meat and have no added water, growth promoters, antibiotics or other additives. All the chickens are hand-plucked and dressed on our farm, so there is no stress of travelling. The chickens include giblets and have an average weight of 1.8kg- 2.5kg. Please contact us for heavier weights.order formGEESE, DUCKS and GUINEA FOWLThese are organic free-range and grass-reared in family groups. Their diet is supplemented with organic wheat .The geese were hatched by their mums on the farm, early in April and May. Both the geese and ganders make wonderful parents and we leave the care of their brood entirely to them. We provide mobile housing, access to pasture, organic wheat and lots of water and they do the rest. This approach is well rewarded at Christmas time!
The ducks are Muscovy/ Barbary and Pekin crosses. They are home-bred and have a nice natural life with their family groups. They love the diet of grasses and insects and are particularly helpful clearing the slugs from our garden!!The guinea fowl enjoy much the same lifestyle, though they are very flighty compared with the others, and have a great alarm call which is said to be a deterrent to foxes!Once again, they are all hand-plucked and dressed on the farm.order form
